Abstract

This research has carried out the design of a tubular space frame prototype electric car chasis formula SAE is determined using the VDI 2221 method, knowing the change in the shape of the tubular space frame prototype electric car chassis when given a load, knowing the amount of stress, deflection, and safety factors from the results of software solidworks 2016. The result of research with the VDI 2221 design method is a tubular space frame chassis design that has met the requirements of the engineering system. The results of tests carried out on designs made with the help of SolidWorks 2016 software Produce a maximum value of stress on the side impact test of 29 (MPa) with a loading of 1250 Newton, the maximum deflection value on the side impact tes of 2 mm with a loading of 1250 Newton, and the maximum value of the safety factor gets a value of 10 which occurs on the rear (rear impact test) and the minimum safety factor value occurs at the front with a score of 2.17. referring to the material specifications used with the AISI 1020 code, it can be ascertained that this chassis is safe to use with certain conditions.
