Author Guidelines

Focus and Scope

Journal of Indonesian Science Teachers (JIST) is published by the Master of Science Education Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Education Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Riau in collaboration with the Perkumpulan Pendidik IPA Indonesia (PPII)/Association of Indonesian Science Educators with MoU No.25/PPII/ J/2022. This journal is published three times a year, in May, September, and January. Articles published focus on the results of science learning research or learning physics, chemistry, and biology which include: learning management systems and ICT-assisted learning, development and application of learning media, implementation of learning strategies, models, approaches, and classroom action research.

 

Manuscript Format

Manuscripts are written in Indonesian or in English. Articles from the abstract to the conclusion are shown in justification format (aligned right-left), while the bibliography is left-aligned in APA Style 7th edition. Paper size is A4 (21 cm x 29.5 cm), margin: left 3 cm, right 3 cm, top 3 cm, bottom 3 cm, use the template format provided on the JIST website. Times New Roman font type, font size: manuscript title size 14, abstract and keywords 11, space 1, contents of the manuscript from Introduction to Conclusion 12 space 1.15, bibliography 11 space 1. Each article submitted to JIST and deemed appropriate by the team editor, will be forwarded to the review board. Submitting manuscripts using Microsoft Word format, is done through registration and submission on the JIST website. Next, an editorial, reviewer, and publishing process will be carried out for articles that meet the requirements. Manuscript Writing

  • Title, written in capital letters at the beginning of each word, except for conjunctions or connecting words. The title is made attractive, informative, short, precise, and describes the contents of the article [Font size 14, bold, maximum 20 words].
  • Author's identity, the name without including academic title [Font size 12, bolt, 1 space], complete with the name of the institution [Font size 11, italic, and e-mail address for the benefit of the correspondent, [Font size 11, space 1].Abstrak [Font 11], in two languages, namely English (Abstract) and Indonesian (Abstract) between 180-250 words, containing the essence of the study problem, main objectives, methods, study results, and the essence of the study conclusions [Font 11].
  • Keywords, in English and Indonesian between 3-5 words [Font 11].
  • Introduction, which contains the background of the study problem, shows that there is a gap between expectations and reality which is supported by the latest relevant theory and studies related to the study problem, explains the novelty and purpose of the study [Font 12].
  • Research Method, which is a brief description of the location and time of the research, tools, and materials (if needed), type and design of the study, study instruments, collection techniques, and data analysis techniques [Font 12].
  • Results and Discussion, is a presentation of research data that can be presented in the form of tables, figures, or graphs accompanied by comprehensive scientific discussion and analysis, supported by updated relevant reference studies, and can show study findings explicitly. The contents of the results and discussion should be more than other sections [Font 12].
  • Conclusion, contains a summary of the results of the study obtained, written briefly, concisely, and clearly in the order of the issues discussed. Conclusions are arranged in paragraph form [Font 12].
  • Acknowledgement [Font 12], if necessary as a thank you is written only if the article comes from the results of research that received research grants from the institution or  sponsors [Font 11].
  • Bibliography [Font 12], contains references that are used as references in writing articles, between 15-30 references. Dominant references (> 60%) use references from relevant and updated national and international journals. References are arranged alphabetically with the 7th edition of the APA Style system which prioritizes family names and is recommended using applications such as Mendeley [Font 11]. 

 

Submission of Manuscripts

Manuscripts for publication in the Journal of Indonesian Science Teachers (JIST) are written in Indonesian or English and comply with the writing guidelines. The editor will not accept manuscripts that do not comply with the conditions provided on the JIST website.

The Journal of Indonesian Science Teachers (JIST) has used the management of publishing scientific papers based on the Open Journal System. Manuscripts received by the editor must be in Microsoft Office Word format (*.doc) and have used the manuscript template provided. The author submits the manuscript by registering (registering) or logging in (for those who have registered) on the website https://jist.ejournal.unri.ac.id/index.php/JIST/index, then follow the next steps to upload the manuscript online.

Manuscripts that have passed the selection from the editorial board will then go through a peer-review process. The author is allowed to revise his article if there are suggestions for improvement from the reviewers. Manuscripts will be published in the Journal of Indonesian Science Teachers (JIST) after being declared fit for publication by the editorial board. Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is adjusted according to the format on the JIST template or according to the guidelines for writing articles.; and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
